Circular Economy

In a circular economy, waste and resource use are minimised and the focus is to reduce our consumption-based emissions. The use and value of products and materials is maintained for as long as possible. When a product has reached the end of its life its parts are used again and again – to create further useful products, instead of being discarded which is an all too familiar pattern now.

Since the introduction of the Deposit Return Scheme, thanks to your efforts, we have seen a massive reduction in the plastic bottles and drinks containers found on our shores and on our streets.

I am now working on legislation to ban disposable vapes. In addition to littering our streets and beaches, they are a waste of critical resources and incredibly difficult to recycle.

I have a background in IT and public procurement and I continue to put that experience to work in reducing public sector costs and waste.  I recently launched a scheme for the state to buy remanufactured laptops which saves plastic waste and cut costs to taxpayers by around 30%.
